DETOURS music combines elements of pop rock, folk and country. Their songs are lyrically thought provoking, melodic, catchy, honest and observational, appealing to the core of the human condition.
RECENT SINGLE RELEASED 2023:
A few years prior, Ez had created his own independent record label Ezstatic Music to release his own solo albums and then in 2003 DETOURS recorded and released their first album Debut on the label, which changed its name to Detours Music. The album Debut is a selection of 12 acoustic tracks recorded live in the studio with minimal overdubs, to represent their live performances and coincide with their inclusion in the prestigious Saddleworth Festival of the Arts that same summer.

In the years that followed, DETOURS enjoyed performing many legendary concerts at small theatres, clubs, bars, and festivals around the North West and Wales, including Millgate Players Theatre, Playhouse2 Theatre, Manchester’s Life Cafe, Night and Day, Cuba Cafe, Mint Lounge, BBC, Glossop Festival, M19 Bar, Rock For Tsunami, Rock for Malawi and Well-i-fest to name just a few, and appearing on independent radio stations such as ALL FM, The Radio Shed and BBC Radio Manchester.
Further albums followed, with fuller, bigger arrangements: No Evil (2004) including the singles Someday and Memory Lane; Snowballed The Christmas EP (2004) with 3 original Christmas songs, A Dark Storm (2005) featuring a collaboration with Paddy O’Hare including the singles For Your Love and the title track itself; The Bells Of St Mary EP and Sense Of Purpose (2007) featuring collaborations with Kristyna Myles (of Chris De Burgh fame) and fellow Saddleworth rocker Morgan; and a compilation album Collection (2010) including the single Learning The Game, a cover of the classic Buddy Holly song which has been a staple of their live shows since their very first performance.

The years since have been dogged by life threatening injuries and illnesses, but DETOURS have continued to remain active by performing at charity events from time to time, releasing the singles Gift of Life/Walls of Division (2017) and Believe (2018) along with their last album to date Believe Upon Each Day (2018). They also released the singles Where Have All The Years Gone? in 2023 and Goodbye in 2024.
Ez continues to sporadically release solo recordings and in 2024 Julian Flindle also released a solo album, Same Old Sky, which includes backing vocals by both Ez and Sam.
DETOURS have recently been taking time out to grieve personal losses, but there are plans to release a boxset of alternate mixes, demos, live and rehearsal performances from over the years and also a brand new studio album, with some live performances to follow. Watch this space…..
